About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to inspire academic excellence; to nurture curiosity, creativity, and imagination; and to do so within an environment rich with warmth, kindness and respect.

At Washington Montessori Public Charter School, our goal is to provide a Montessori education to all of our students: to nurture them in a caring and supportive environment that will ignite their curiosity and inspire them to learn naturally.

Students Watching Wallpaper

Our materials address a child's need to experience the concrete in order to understand the abstract.

Visitors will not see rows of desks, textbooks or teachers lecturing in front of the class. Instead one finds children working at shared tables, on mats on the floor or sitting at lap desks. Resource books and novels are found throughout the classroom and the teacher is usually nestled in a small group of students giving lessons.

Our Beliefs

Our program rests on four pillars:

  • The cultivation within our students of a passion for excellence in everything they do, both inside and outside of school.
  • The development of a strongly held set of universal values, which include self-respect, respect for others, honesty, integrity, responsibility, empathy, compassion, kindness, peacefulness, a sense of concern for others, warmth and a love of community.
  • The development of a global perspective and sense of international understanding.
  • To foster a lifelong commitment to give something back through service to others who are in need.

The Three Basic Tenets of Washington Montessori:

1. Respect all living things.

2. Respect all non-living things.

3. Use grace and courtesy.
