Dedicated to pursuing our greatest potential to fulfill our responsibility to the world.
Washington Montessori is committed to the development of the whole child, enabling him to draw upon all his gifts and reach his greatest potential. We encourage personal responsibility both socially and academically. Each child is allowed freedom of choice and is offered guidance in setting individual goals. Our mission is to inspire academic excellence; to nurture curiosity, creativity, and imagination; and to do so within an environment rich with warmth, kindness and respect.
At Washington Montessori Public Charter School, our goal is to nurture our students in a caring and supportive environment that will ignite their curiosity and inspire them to learn naturally.
We must help the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself; this is the art of those who aspire to serve the spirit.
“I benefited from the Montessori education which in some ways gives the students a lot more freedom to do things at their own pace, to discover… Some of the credit for the willingness to go on your own interests, you can tie that back to that Montessori education.” Sergey Brin
“We both went to Montessori school, and I think it was part of that training … of being self-motivated, questioning what’s going on in the world, doing things a little bit different.” Larry Page
Sergey Brin and Larry Page, computer scientists and Internet entrepreneurs who co-founded Google
“Structure is an absolutely important part of the creative life, and Emily [Yo Yo Ma’s daughter] got this from her Montessori experience.”
Jeff Bezos, CEO, Amazon
“Montessori taught me the joy of discovery. It showed you can become interested in pretty complex theories, like Pythagorean theory, say, by playing with blocks. It’s all about learning on your terms, rather than a teacher explaining stuff to you.”
Will Wright, Computer Game Designer and Original Designer of The Sims
“I do not believe there is a method better than Montessori for making children sensitive to the beauties of the world and awakening their curiosity regarding the secrets of life.”
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nobel Laureate in Literature and former Montessori student
