--sent out with copy of School Report Card Dear WMPCS Family and Friends Welcome to Washington Montessori Public Charter School in Washington, NC. WMPCS was founded in 2000 by a group of parents and community members dedicated to the Montessori philosophy of learning. Our school provides students in Beaufort and surrounding counties an atmosphere of peace, grace, and courtesy enabling them to be successful students and citizens. WMPCS has expanded to a new campus accommodating students in grades K-8. Within the past five years we have opened two new buildings housing classrooms for our 6-9 and 9-12 level students. These buildings were designed with the environment in mind. The architecture provides maximum exposure to natural light resulting in a more efficient use of electricity. Our teaching method values the child as a whole. Student’s performance on End of Grade testing is in line with the state requirements of all schools in North Carolina while also meeting the Average Yearly Progress (AYP) set by the federal governments No Child Left Behind. In addition to meeting these requirements, WMPCS also promotes social growth. Students are involved in community and international service projects. Student in the 3-6 level annually provide pies to a local senior housing complex during the holidays. Students in the 9-12 level sew baby blankets for the nursery at Beaufort Regional Medical Center. The middle school students also assist annually in the community. In the past they have volunteered to work with Special Olympics. With all that our students and staff do, we still find time to hold an international Kidsfest in May which enables all the students and WMPCS families to better appreciate the world around us. All of this would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our highly qualified staff, parents, PTO, and Board of Trustees. At quarterly Community Meetings and Parent Nights we take suggestions to help us become a better school. Parents are asked to donate 20 hours of their time annually to assists with campus projects. During Beautification Day, parents have cleared brush and trees to create a nature trail, planted flowers, and built walkways. The Board of Trustees provides the needed direction that helps us with our continued growth. The assistance from the PTO, Board of Trustees, and WMPCS families during these difficult economic times enables our students and staff the resources to continually succeed in the classroom and community. I am a firm believer that when staff, parents, and community work together, the outcome will be a successful child in the classroom leading into a productive life. We have this at Washington Montessori Public Charter School and welcome you to visit us during the year to witness what we can offer your child. Sincerely, Jen Hales Interim Head of School, Washington Montessori Public Charter School . |
